The most prestigious educational institutions in the United States are currently undergoing a time of chaos due to student protests regarding the Israel-Palestine divide.
(PLGNN) - The October 7th attacks by terrorist group Hamas were one of the worst events in modern history. The violence carried out that day was unimaginable, it was the single largest amount of Jewish individuals killed since the Holocaust. It also shined a light on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, which is one of the most controversial of the modern day.
Recently, students at the most the United States's most prestigious institutions have taken it upon themselves to protest the war between Israel and Hamas, with many calling for Israel to "free Palestine" and calling for the end of Israel.
Columbia University in New York City has been hit the hardest with these protests, with camps of students taking up the lawn whilst displaying Hamas propaganda along with chanting antisemitic phrases. This has led to the NYPD arresting over 100 students, including United States Representative Ilhan Omar's daughter, Isra Hirsi.
Also at Columbia University, a pro-Gaza student was spotted holding a sign calling upon Al-Qasam, which is the military wing of Hamas, to kill the Jewish students.
Reminiscent of the infamous 1938 photo of Nazis blocking Jewish students from entering Vienna University, students in support of Palestine have lined up to block any Jewish students from entering Columbia University. These protestors have shouted things such as "death to all Jews".
The NYPD have warned that Columbia University is not safe, and when Israeli Columbia Professor Shai Davidai emailed the university asking for police protection, his email was ignored.
Due to high risk of violence against Jewish students, protestors at Columbia University has given students the option of attending online learning classes. The Orthodox Rabbi at Columbia University and Barnard College has urged Jewish students to return home as the police cannot guarantee their safety. Protestors have taken this as a win, and have stated that they will not leave until the university meets their demands, one of which is divesting in any company related to Israel.
Yale is also facing similar problems, and pro-Gaza protestors also stood to block Jewish students from entering the university.
Further adding onto Yale's problems, a mob of Yale students shouted "VIVA VIVA PALESTINA" as they tore down an American flag on campus, cheering when it hit the ground. The administration and campus police did nothing about this.
Jewish student of Yale Sahar Tartak was stabbed in the eye by a pro-Palestine student holding the flag of Palestine. When Tartak tried to pursue this attacker, she was blocked by other students and laughed at. The man who stabbed her was wearing a keffiyeh, which is recommended by the protestors to conceal their identities.
A student at Yale has also made a senior thesis which is a duct tape F-16 meant to protest Israel and call upon Yale to divest. It had fake blood on it and was displayed this week on campus.
The environments created by these pro-Gaza protestors have created an extremely dangerous situation for Jewish students which is taking away their right to an education.
