Following in suite to Yale and Columbia University, pro-Palestine protests have started up at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
(PLGNN) - After the October 7th attacks by terrorist group Hamas, a worldwide divide has been created due to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The October 7th attacks sparked a war between Hamas and Israel over Israel's heavily contested land of Palestine.
At Yale and Columbia University, students have created massive encampments where they fly Palestinian flags whilst shouting antisemitic phrases. At those protests, a Jewish student at Yale got stabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag, and have blocked Jewish students from entering the universities in an act that echoes 1938, when Nazis prevented Jewish students from entering Vienna University.
The protests at Columbia University have caused the NYPD to make over 100 arrests, including Isra Hirsi, the daughter over United States Representative Ilhan Omar.
Late at night on Sunday, Talia Khan (@TaliaKhan_MIT), tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter), "And, it's happened. The anti-Israel, pro-terrorist encampment is now up at @MIT. We are afraid to go near". She also attached a video showing the encampment.
The goal of the encampment, which is set up on the school's Kresge Lawn, is to end the university's connections to the Israel Defense Forces. Francesca Riccio-Ackerman (@still_francesca), an MIT PhD student, tweeted, "Breaking: The students and workers of #MIT establish the Scientists Against Genocide Encampment on MIT’s Kresge Lawn . 'MIT has received OVER $11 MILLION in research funding from the Ministry of Defense of Israel since 2015…. We will NOT REST until MIT cuts research ties with the Israeli military.'" In a follow up tweet, Riccio-Ackerman added, "#MIT joins #Columbia, #UNC, #Yale, #TheNewSchool, #WashU, & others in the #Encampment movement in protest of the University’s direct ties to the Israeli military, and use of our labor in human rights abuses and genocide." Over 1,200 Israelis were killed after the October 7th attacks by terrorist group Hamas. Israel swiftly launched a counter attack into the Gaza Strip, which has so far resulted in the death of 34,000 Palestinians, as reported by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. Over 133 Israeli Hostages are still being held by Hamas.
