Trump Considering Making Venezuela 51st State

President Donald Trump is considering making Venezuela the 51st state in the United States of America.

(PLGNN) - Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, is considering making Venezuela the US's 51st state.

Earlier Monday, Trump said in remarks made to FOX News that he was "seriously considering making Venezuela the 51st US state".

This idea doesn't seem to have the support of American citizens, with many questioning why we need another state, and some saying that Puerto Rico deserves statehood first.

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, which means residents are US citizens, but cannot vote for the President and do not have representation in Congress.

Donald Trump's obsession with Venezuela is speculated to be related to the massive reserve of oil there, with over 300 billion barrels of proven crude oil. Venezuela is also home to large quantities of gold and other rare minerals.

The acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez told journalists, "We will continue to defend our integrity, our sovereignty, our independence, our history," adding that Venezuela is, "not a colony, but a free country".

Rodríguez became the acting President of Venezuela in January after the United States captured then-President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores from their compound in Caracas. The mission was named Operation Absolute Resolve, and was carried out by C Squadron of Delta Force in conjunction with the 3rd Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment.

The operation was extremely controversial, causing individuals around the world to question America's jurisdiction in capturing foreign heads of state.

Maduro is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York.
