(PLGNN) - O.J. Simpson was a highly accomplished football player, however people instead tend to remember him for his infamous 1995 murder trial where he stood accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Now, Simpson has died at age 76 due to prostate cancer.

Simpson's prostate cancer diagnosis was revealed two months ago, and Simpson had received chemotherapy treatment for it. A post from Simpson's X account on April 11th reads, "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

In 1995, a jury found Simpson not guilty of the murders of Brown and Goldman in what was referred to as the "Trial of the Century". In 1997, another jury found Simpson liable for Goldman and Brown's deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million.

O.J. Simpson later published a book titled If I did It saying that he hadn't committed the murders, but described what he would have done if he had.

Simpson was sent to prison for 33 years following a 2007 Las Vegas kidnapping and armed robbery, however he was released early in 2017 after only serving 9 years.

O.J. Simpson's lawyer has confirmed Simpson has been cremated.
