The crew of the cargo ship that hit the Baltimore Bridge has remained stuck in the ship for almost two months.
(PLGNN) - 21 crew members have been stuck aboard the Dali cargo ship for almost two months, following its crash into the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which resulted in the death of six construction workers.
The ship's crew is not able to leave the vessel due to visa restrictions, with 20 of the crew members being from India, with one from Sri Lanka. The crew also lacks the required shore passes.
Since the bridge collapse on March 26th, the crew has had their phones confiscated by the FBI, and has had to hide on the other side of the ship from controlled explosions meant to clear debris. The FBI has since replaced their phones, however this has caused information such as contacts and banking apps to be lost. The crew is also a part of an investigation by the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The crew members have opted to pass the time by maintaining the ship and assisting the authorities in salvage operations. However, the crew is reportedly having a "tough time" being around the accident site where six individuals lost their lives.
The crew has been supplied with regular deliveries of pre-pared Indian food, and the ship's pre-existing food supply is enough to meet the needs of the crew.
The Dali has been moved from the site of the accident to a nearby port, however crew members are still unable to disembark, with no updates from the FBI on when they can leave.
