Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has just won the iconic Monaco Grand Prix, which has brought him his first win in two years.
(PLGNN) - Charles Leclerc, a Formula 1 racing driver for the Scuderia Ferrari team has just won the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. This is Leclerc's 6th win in Formula 1, with his last win being two years ago at the 2022 Austria Grand Prix. Leclerc has entered 133 Grand Prix, achieving 35 podiums and 1212 points.
Leclerc was born and raised in Monaco, and has become the first-ever Monegasque driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix in the world championship era, and the first since driver Louis Chiron in 1931. In doing so, Leclerc has ended the "Monaco Curse", which is used to describe his unlucky results during his previous home races. In the past, the Monaco Grand Prix has seen Leclerc end with three DNFs and two pole positions that he has failed to convert into wins, resulting in not even a podium at his home track.
In achieving this win, Charles Leclerc has also broken another unlucky streak, which is not winning from pole. Leclerc has failed to convert his last 12 pole positions into victories, which is the second longest streak in Formula 1 history.
Ferrari saw a double podium today, with driver Carlos Sainz coming in third place. McLaren driver Lando Norris placed second.
RedBull Racing driver Max Verstappen had been dominating for three seasons, however this season we've also seen Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and McLaren driver Lando Norris take victories, signaling a possible end to the Verstappen dominance. Max Verstappen is still in the lead in the championship, with 169 points. Charles Leclerc is in second place, catching up fast with 138 points. Lando Norris is third with 113 points.
