SpaceX founder Elon Musk tweeted in support of making Jurassic Park a reality.
(PLGNN) - Jurassic Park, based on the book by Michael Crichton with the same name, is perhaps one of the most famous films in history. The film takes place on an island where scientists have brought dinosaurs back from the dead using prehistoric DNA. However, the island quickly gets overrun when the dinosaurs escape their cages. In the real world, scientists now think it may be possible to bring dinosaurs back from extinction over 66 million years ago.
In April of 2025, a species was brought back from extinction for the first time when Biotech firm Colossal Biosciences announced the creation of three dire wolves, named Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi. The wolves were created using CRISPR technology to edit gray wolf cells with 20+ ancient DNA markers. However, whether these are truly dire wolves or heavily modified gray wolves is a subject of the debate amongst scientists.
With the renewed hype on DNA editing and the de-extinction of species, many people have begun to talk about the creation of a real-life Jurassic Park.
Head of product at X (formerly known as Twitter) Nikita Bier posted to X saying, "I feel like this startup idea is fundable now," and attached an image of the Jurassic Park logo.
Elon Musk quote tweeted this post, saying, "I hope someone makes this work!"
At the moment, we don't yet have the technology to revive the dinosaurs, as their DNA has not survived for the 66 million years since dinosaurs went extinct. However, scientists are exploring a way to de-evolve descendants of dinosaurs, to bring a version of them back.
Many individuals have voiced concerns over this, noting that the seven films in the Jurassic Park universe are warnings on why bringing dinosaurs back is a bad idea.
At the moment though, we don't have to worry about dinosaurs any time soon.
