The Israeli government has revealed that Abdallah Aljamal was holding three hostages in his family's home in Nuseirat.
(PLGNN) - On June 8th, the Israeli military carried out what they called one of the "most complicated" hostage rescue missions of all time. After weeks of gathering intel, Israeli forces entered two residential buildings in the Nuseirat refugee in Gaza. They rescued four hostages, Noa Argamani, Shlomi Ziv, Almog Meir Jan, and Andrey Kozlov, who were all taken from the Nova Music festival during the October 7th surprise attack by terrorist group Hamas.

Shortly after the rescue, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) posted to X, saying, "'Journalist' Abdallah Aljamal was a Hamas terrorist holding Almog, Andrey, and Shlomi hostage in his family's home in Nuseirat. No press vest can make him innocent of the crimes he has committed." The IDF also tagged Al Jazeera in the post.
Abdallah Aljamal was reportedly holding Shlomi Ziv, Almog Meir Jan, and Andrey Kozlov in his home within the Gaza strip. He was killed during the rescue operation.
Al Jazeera has had some problems with Israel in the past, and one month ago Israel expelled the network from its country due to it deeming it harmful to national security. Al Jazeera is funded in part by the government of Qatar.
Aljamal's bio on Al Jazeera states he is a "Gaza-based reporter and photojournalist.". Al Jazeera posted to X, where they said that Aljamal has never worked with the network, however contributed to an Op-ed in 2019. They called the allegations "completely unfounded".
It was also revealed that Aljamal previously served as the spokesperson of the Hamas Ministry of Labor, along with being a journalist for The Palestine Chronicle. The Chronicle said it was "deeply saddened" by Aljamal's death.
Since the October 7th surprise attacks by Hamas, over 1,400 Israelis have been killed along with 36,000 Palestinians, with the latter toll coming from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry. Hamas is still holding over 100 Israelis hostage.
