Gemini Founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss Donated $2 Million To Donald Trump

The founders of the Gemini Crypto Exchange, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have donated $1 million each to former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.

(PLGNN) - The Winklevoss twins announced last Thursday, June 20, that they would be donating $1 million in Bitcoin each to former President of the United States Donald Trump, who is running for president again this November.

Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are famously known for suing Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 for stealing their idea of a social media network and creating Facebook. The twins were portrayed by Armie Hammer in the Academy Award-winning movie *The Social Network*.

In 2013, the twins were revealed to have bought around 1% of the total supply of Bitcoin and helped fund Charlie Shrem's BitInstant crypto exchange. However, the exchange shut down, and Shrem was arrested in 2014 for helping supply Bitcoin to users of online drug markets.

In 2014, the twins announced the Gemini Exchange, which would go live in 2015 and quickly became one of the most popular crypto exchanges in the world.

On June 20, Tyler Winklevoss, who serves as the CEO of Gemini, tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that, "I just donated $1 million in Bitcoin (15.47 BTC) to @realDonaldTrump and will be voting for him in November. Here’s why: Over the past few years, the Biden Administration has openly declared war against crypto. It has weaponized multiple government agencies to bully, harass, and sue the good actors in our industry in an effort to destroy it. This Administration's actions have been nothing short of an unprecedented abuse of power wielded entirely for twisted political gain at the complete expense of innovation, the American taxpayer, and the American economy. There is nothing the Biden Administration can do or say at this point to pretend otherwise."

Tyler then goes on to discuss the "lowlights" of the Biden Administration's crypto policies, including the weaponization of banks and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against crypto. He ends his tweet with, "President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice. This is not even remotely open for debate. Anyone who tells you otherwise is severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth. It’s time to take our country back. It’s time for the crypto army to send a message to Washington. That attacking us is political suicide. This is why I will be casting my vote for President Trump in November and I hope you will too. Onward!"

Cameron Winklevoss tweets that he too will be donating the same amount to Donald Trump's presidential campaign and summarizes that Trump is "Pro-Bitcoin, Pro-Crypto, Pro-Business, and he will put an end to the Biden Administration's war on crypto".

However, the Trump campaign had to refund a small portion of the donation back to the twins, as the amount exceeded the maximum $844,600 that the Trump committee can legally accept per person.

Donald Trump will be running against current United States President Joe Biden in November.
