The United Kingdom Prime Minister is planning to remove vapes from the country.
(PLGNN) - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is planning to get rid of disposable vapes in an effort to fix the vaping addictions that are prevalent in many young people.
PM Sunak is a fitness enthusiast who even fasts every Monday, so it's no surprise that he is aiming to ban disposable vapes. The worldwide views on vapes are drastically different, with San Francisco choosing to ban e-cigarettes, whereas health experts in the United Kingdom have actually been promoting vapes as a healthier alternative to smoking. The long-term effects of vapes are unknown, however they have been proven to increase anxiety and depression in teens. Due to the sweet flavors of vapes, children as young as 11 years old are becoming addicted to the nicotine products.
With the rise of these dangerous statistics, the United Kingdom will start imposing fines on businesses that illegally sell vapes to children. There are also new rules to come into effect in the next year that restrict flavors marketed to children, along with using plain packaging on nicotine products and keep them out of view of children in shops.
According to the Associated Press, Sunak’s government also said it will push on with a plan announced last year to gradually raise the minimum age to buy cigarettes, so that no one born after Jan. 1, 2009 can ever legally buy them.
The plan was modeled after a New Zealand Proposal, however the proposal didn't end up going through.
