New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has suffered a head injury while taking on the Chicago Bears.
(PLGNN) - Rookie sensation Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion during the second half of the New York Giants 20-24 loss to the Chicago Bears.
In the third quarter, Dart scrambled to get a first down, but got hit from the side, fumbling the ball, with his head hitting the ground hard. After remaining on the ground for a few seconds, Dart walked off to the sideline, before returning to the field the following drive.
However, two plays in, he went into the medical tent between the quarters, before walking back to the locker room with a trainer. Dart was ruled out later in the fourth quarter.
Dart was replaced by backup quarterback Russell Wilson, who finished 3-of-7 passing for 45 yards and rushed twice for 12 yards.
Before exiting the game, Dart became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to record a rushing touchdown in five straight games.
Dart has been contacted the second most out of any quarterback after becoming the starter in Week 4, taking an average of 13 hits per game. This is the fourth time Jaxson Dart has been evaluated for a concussion this year, including the preseason.
In terms of how long Jaxson Dart will be unable to play, NFL concussion protocol says "Every NFL player diagnosed with a concussion must follow a five-step process before being cleared to fully practice or participate in an NFL game. This process, developed from internationally accepted guidelines, ensures that each player receives consistent treatment. Each player and each concussion is unique, and there is no set time-frame for return to participation. Team medical staff consider the player's current concussive injury, as well as past exposures and medical history, family history and future risk in managing a player's care."
The Giants are set to play the Packers next Sunday, and it's unlikely that Dart will be playing.
Jaxson Dart started at USC for one season, before transferring to Ole Miss where he would become the primary starter across the three seasons he played there. While at Ole Miss, he set the record for 1st in Ole Miss wins by starting quarterback, and 1st in Ole Miss career passing yards (10.617).
Dart was the 25th overall pick in the NFL draft, after the Giants traded up to secure the pick, sending their second and third-round picks to the Houston Texans.
Dart started the 2025 season as QB2, however the Giants opted to make Dart the starting quarterback after the team's 0-3 start under Russell Wilson.
