Hamilton's last win was 945 days before the British Grand Prix, in Saudi Arabia during the second-to-last race of the 2021 Formula 1 season. The 2021 Formula 1 season ended in a controversial call by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), which is the governing body of Formula 1, that saw Max Verstappen win the final race of the 2021 season in Abu Dhabi. This led to Verstappen's first world championship, leading to hefty debate among fans on who should've won the race and the season.
On Sunday, Lewis Hamilton, who is racing for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team, started from second position on the grid, while his teammate, George Russell, started from pole position.
