The famous driver has signed with the Ferrari Formula 1 team for the 2025 season.
(PLGNN) - Seven time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has signed with the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team to race besides Charles Leclerc for the 2025 season.
Lewis Hamilton spent eleven years at the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 team, and won six of his seven titles with them. Hamilton stated on his Instagram that, "Mercedes has been a huge part of my life since I was 13 years old, so this decision has been the hardest I’ve ever had to make."
Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff said, "Lewis will always be an important part of Mercedes motorsport history. However, we knew our relationship would come to a natural end at some point, and now that day has come."
Fans are speculating that there may be something more to the decision, and that something happened behind the scenes between Mercedes and Hamilton.
Hamilton stated that, "driving in red," was "fulfilling a childhood dream". Ferrari is reportedly offering him over $100 million to drive for them.
He will be replacing Carlos Sainz Jr. who is predicted to move to the Audi-Sauber team.
Hamilton will still be driving for Mercedes in the upcoming 2024 season.
