A radio tower in Alabama disappeared, leaving police baffled.
(PLGNN) - A radio tower in Jasper, Alabama, has mysteriously disappeared, leaving local police with more questions then answers.
On February 2nd, 2024, a maintenance crew arrived at the site of the radio tower, only to find the 200-foot (61-meter) tower gone, along with all the broadcasting equipment in the nearby building stolen.
This has caused the WJLX radio in Jasper, Alabama, to shut down for an undefined amount of time.
The radio station has no insurance on the tower, and WJLX General Manager Brett Elmore told the Associated Press that he estimates it will take $60,000 to $100,000 to rebuild the tower.
Elmore has started a gofundme to help fund the money tower being rebuilt, and has so far raised over $20,000.
The loss of the tower was discovered on February 2nd, however police are unsure of the exact date or time the tower was actually stolen. The police are seeking tips from the public, and are urging that anyone with information regarding the incident to contact either JPD at 205-221-2122 or Crime Stoppers at 205-221-505.
