Ex-FBI Director Accused Of Calling For Trump Assassination

Former FBI director James Comey is being accused of calling for the assassination of Donald Trump after he posted a cryptic image on his Instagram.

(PLGNN) - James Comey, the former FBI director is currently under fire after he posted a cryptic image which many Republicans believe is calling for the assassination of United States President Donald Trump.

Comey was sworn in as FBI director on September 4, 2013, under the Obama Administration, and he was fired from his position on May 9, 2017 by President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, Comey shared a picture on his Instagram of seashells arranged on a beach spelling "8647." Comey added the caption, "Cool shell formation on my beach walk."

"86" is a slang term that means "to get rid of", with some dictionary definitions noting that is also means "to kill", and 47 refers to Donald Trump's current position as the 47th President of the United States.

The son of Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., posted to X (formerly Twitter), saying, "Just James Comey causally calling for my dad to be murdered. This is who the Dem-Media worships. Demented!!!!"

Current FBI director Kash Patel tweeted that, "We are aware of the recent social media post by former FBI Director James Comey, directed at President Trump. We are in communication with the Secret Service and Director Curran. Primary jurisdiction is with SS on these matters and we, the FBI, will provide all necessary support."

Comey deleted the photo just hours after posting, and posted a new image with the text "I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down."

It is unclear who created the shell formation.
