Google And Meta Accused Of Censoring Trump-Related Results

Google and Meta are being accused online of censoring results relating to former United States President Donald Trump.

(PLGNN) - Big tech companies Meta and Google are coming under fire after social media users discovered that they may be restricting results relating to that of former United States President and 2024 Republican party nominee Donald Trump.

Online users discovered that when you type "Assassination attempt on Tr" into the Google search engine, no autofill results recommend the July 13th assassination attempt on Trump, despite it being one of the most heavily searched for topics.

Google instead auto fills "Assassination attempt on Truman", and some users have noted that even when they type the entire word "Assassination attempt on Donald Trump" out, they still yield no results.

When PLGNN originally attempted this, we achieved similar results, however when we attempted the same search query hours later it now does feature Trump as an autofill option, however "Assassination attempt on Truman" is still the top result. However, it should be noted that this is most likely due to the high amount of individuals searching this after hearing about the autofill issue.

Social media platform X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted to X a graphic revealing that Alphabet (Google) employees were the top donors to current United States President Joe Biden during the 2020 election, where Biden and Trump faced off for the first time.

However, Google also appeared to block news results for Trump, and when users Googled Donald Trump, they were instead met with news articles of Kamala Harris, who is the all-but-certain Democratic nominee. She is the current Vice President of the United States and has been endorsed by Joe Biden following Biden dropping out of the 2024 Presidential race.

When PLGNN attempted to replicate this result, we were originally met with Kamala Harris results, however after attempt the same search hours later, Google gave news articles about Donald Trump.

Meta was also accused of censoring Donald Trump-related media, and the famous photo of Donald Trump pumping his fist following the assassination attempt has been marked as "misleading" or "false" on multiple Instagram and FaceBook posts.

It was also noted that the Meta AI chatbot, Llama 3.1, has no information regarding the July 13th assassination attempt on Trump. One X user described the event to Llama, and Llama claimed the event did not happen.

However, Llama 3.1 was aware of the Kamala Harris 2024 Presidential campaign, and was even able to give a brief rundown of her goals, which included information about the recent Israel-Hamas conflict, and even mentioned that she raised $81 million in small-dollar donations within the first 24 hours of her candidacy. Harris announced her 2024 Presidential Campaign on July 21, 2024, meaning that Llama 3.1 was given some up-to-date information, and many users found it strange that it wasn't aware of the Trump assassination attempt, despite the attempt taking place a full week before Harris announced her campaign.

PLGNN tested this, and we received the same results, where we were able to receive a rundown of the Harris campaign, however no information on the Trump assassination attempt. We also asked who Donald Trump's vice president is, and Llama was unable to answer, despite J.D. Vance being picked as Trump's vice president on July 15th.

Donald Trump reacted to this on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying, "Facebook has just admitted that it wrongly censored the Trump 'attempted assassination photo,' and got caught. Same thing for Google. They made it virtually impossible to find pictures or anything about this heinous act. Both are facing BIG BACKLASH OVER CENSORSHIP CLAIMS."

The former President continued, saying, "Here we go again, another attempt at RIGGING THE ELECTION!!! GO AFTER META AND GOOGLE. LET THEM KNOW WE ARE ALL WISE TO THEM, WILL BE MUCH TOUGHER THIS TIME. MAGA2024!"

The majority of evidence points to the election not having been rigged, and won fairly by Joe Biden.
